42nd INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S GAMES FACT SHEET

  • On July 10-15, 2008, San Francisco will host an extraordinary gathering – the 42nd International Children’s Games and Cultural Festival.
  • The Games are endorsed by the International Olympic Committee.
  • The 42nd International Children’s Games will bring together 1,500 young athletes from around the world to compete and develop friendships.
  • 100 cities from over 50 countries spanning six (6) continents are expected to participate.
  • Two universities in the city will be contributing to the event.

    • San Francisco State University

The 2008 International Children’s Games will feature 8 athletic events being held at 6 different venues:

o Kezar Stadium ~ Track & Field

o Kezar Pavilion ~ Table Tennis

o Koret Center ~ Swimming, Volleyball

o War Memorial Gym, University of San Francisco ~ Basketball

o Tennis Facility at Golden Gate Park ~ Tennis

o Harding Park ~ Golf

 

The 42nd International Children’s Games will include supporting programs and events designed to encourage friendship between the children, respect for the environment and understanding of the traditions of different cultures.

Housing

Participants will be housed in dormitories at University of San Francisco and San Francisco State University. Additionally, the participants will dine together in the university dining halls. Delegations may include as many as 20 athletes, including their coaches and government officials.
