General Volunteer Information

THE VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED


We are only accepting volunteer applications for the following 5 positions:

1) Runner (Floater) Volunteers
2) Information Center Volunteers for San Francisco State University from July 7-18
3) Opening Ceremonies (Labor Crew) 4pm to 10pm
4) Liaison Volunteers (working with Interpreters)
5) Interpreter Volunteers for the following languages:

You must send these signed forms through email, fax, or mail) to the ICG office.  Your volunteer application will not be processed until we have the proper forms.  

<!-All application forms are locked and secured at the ICG office.  All ICG employees are required by the Department of Justice to sign a waiver of confidentiality on all records.  Records will be destroyed after the ICG event has completed.

<!-Minors over the age of 14 years old can volunteer for ICG with his/her parent’s signature on the “Parental Consent Volunteer Release Form.”

<!-International volunteers must sign the same forms and submit two U.S. citizen references and their contact information.


During the International Children’s Games:

Transportation to the International Children’s Games

*Note:  We recommend for all volunteers to carpool, take public transportation, to be dropped off at the location, or to park at San Francisco State University and take the free shuttle to the ICG venue.   Street parking is NOT recommended near the majority of all the venues.

  • Directions to the University of San Francisco – the majority of the ICG events will be held at or near the University of San Francisco.  We do not recommend public street parking.

  • Public Transportation – MUNI is available to all venues of the International Children’s Games.  Please look at www.sfmuni.com to plan the best route.
  • Carpool – Carpool with your friends or co-workers to save money and to decrease environmental harm.  We will soon release more information on a carpool list.  Please go to www.511.org for carpooling schedules with ICG volunteers.
  • Parking  at San Francisco State University– Although there are no parking facilities near the University of San Francisco, we have a parking area option at San Francisco State University.  Parking is available for $5 all day (24 hours) at San Francisco State University Parking Garage.  Free shuttle services for volunteers will depart out of San Francisco State from Font Boulevard to both Golden Gate Park and University of San Francisco venues.    Follow the signs and the volunteer guides to the shuttle pick up location.  Please arrive one hour before your shift in order to account for travel time during shuttle services.   

 Directions to the San Francisco State University parking garage by car:


From the North: Take Highway 101 South, cross the Golden Gate Bridge. Take 19th Avenue/Highway 1 exit. Follow 19th Avenue to campus at Holloway Avenue.

To get to the parking garage, turn right onto Holloway Ave and continue to Font Blvd. Turn right onto Font Blvd. and continue to Lake Merced Blvd. Turn right onto Lake Merced Blvd. then take an immediate right onto State Drive which is the entrance to the parking garage.

From the South:
Take I-280 North, exit at 19th Avenue. Take Junipero Serra Boulevard to Holloway Avenue, turn left on Holloway Avenue to campus at 19th Avenue.

To get to the parking garage, continue on Holloway Ave to Font Blvd. Turn right onto Font Blvd. and continue to Lake Merced Blvd. Turn right onto Lake Merced Blvd. then take an immediate right onto State Drive which is the entrance to the parking garage.

From the East:
Take I-80 West across the Bay Bridge to Highway 101 South. Take 101 South to I-280 toward Daly City. Take the San Jose Avenue/Mission St. exit (immediately after the Ocean Avenue exit), bearing right onto Sagamore Street to Brotherhood Way to Junipero Serra Boulevard North. Take Junipero Serra Boulevard to Holloway Avenue, turn left on Holloway Avenue to campus at 19th Avenue.

To get directly to the parking garage stay on Brotherhood Way and turn right onto Lake Merced Blvd. Turn right onto State Drive which is the third light after turning onto Lake Merced Blvd. and immediately after Font Blvd.

  • Attendance/Check in – All volunteers must report to their assigned spot locations (given during the Information Session) and sign in with the shift manager on location.  A shift manager is located at every venue. 

Meals – It is recommended for all day shift volunteers to eat breakfast prior to your shift.  Lunch and refreshments will be provided for free to all volunteers.
