Safety Logo Stephen Giacalone, Chair

Stephen Giacalone is a San Francisco native. He completed his Paramedic Training at Daniel Freeman Hospital, Los Angeles, CA, in 1995, and was hired by the SFFD in September 1996 as an H2 Firefighter, working in that position through 1998. He then worked for approximately two years as an H3 Firefighter/Paramedic and in November 2000 was officially promoted to that position. For the past year-and-a-half he periodically also has been assigned lieutenant's duties at various stations in San Francisco.

Safety Logo Oona Grilles-Weil

Oona Gilles-Weil is the Program Director for San Francisco SAFE. She brings close to ten years experience working to build safe, harmonious, inclusive communities in several regions of the United States and abroad. Although her positions and titles have varied, her focus has remained the same: To create comprehensive programs that empower and support the community as they work toward positive change. In her role at SAFE, Oona has organized over 20 Neighborhood Watch Groups, and has helped to connect many communities, businesses and neighborhoods with city agencies, law enforcement and other organizations, in order to create safe and cohesive communities.

Oona’s experience includes group facilitation; designing various conflict resolution, violence prevention, and life skills curriculums; and providing advocacy and support to families from various economic and cultural backgrounds. She continues to create and assist active partnerships with the community, educators, parents, human service providers, city-agencies, youth service professionals and community based organizations.
